Oregon anyone?
 

Does anyone live in the Portland, Oregon vicinity? My husband and I have been here 2 years (in 3 days time) and it's about time we got to know some other Brits!! Anyone out there?

Although I no longer live in Portland, OR, I thought I would help you connect with other British Expats in your area by replying.

There is a brit.meetup.com group in your area you might be interested in joining: http://brit.meetup.com/46/

I recently took over as organizer of the brit.meetup.com group for my area and it really has been a lot of fun for everyone. All the Brits, their American halves and children have enjoyed the company of each other.

If you can find a meetup.com group that is active (and it looks very much like the Portland one is thriving) you should jump on the opportunity of participating. I have the Portland, OR brit.meetup group bookmarked because we are going to be heading out there for a week in December and are going to be there during their usual meetup time. We are hoping to, perhaps, meetup with the Portland Brits when we are there. Maybe you will be amongst the meetup group when we do! :D

Not from Oregon, but hubby was out there on biz a few months ago, and didn't want to come back home...he was seriously talking about moving! Couldn't believe how beautiful it is out there. :)

Well, thank you very much for the advice. I shall certainly look up "meetup.com" and join!

It's true that Portland is a very nice place to live. We used to live downtown last year then bought a place with some acreage last Summer in a VERY small town called Clatskanie in Oregon.

My husband commutes to Tigard 10 minutes outside of Portland everyday and I don't know how he does it. I used to go in once a week and worked remotely the rest of the time but now I've bitten the bullet and started my own company.

So, working from a home office 60 miles out of Portland DEFINITELY requires more effort on my part to meet up with other people.

I'm also in Oregon but about 80 miles south of Portland. We're hoping to move to Portland within the next couple of years though.

I know what you mean about the effort to meet up with other people - we both work from home and live in a small town too - even meeting up with friends in town just 25miles away seems to take a big effort, hence us (or rather me) wanting to move to Portland.

Wonderful. Glad to hear I'm not the only one in the area. I went ahead and joined the recommended British Portland group at meetup.com so hopefully will get to meet some of you if you decide to join too.

Even though we made a conscious decision to leave downtown Portland - house prices are 24% over valued - we do easily get into town so anybody wanting to meet up one week-end with my husband and I, please do feel free to contact me.

Hi. I have been living in Portland for the past 27 yrs since I moved from Coventry and love it. it rains a bit but at least it is not as damp as back home tho i do miss my McVities Digestives and Cadburys twirls bars after all these years))))Planning on going back to Sky Blue country in the summer for a week and off to tenerife for a week. Can hardly wait for summer)))

27 years - wow that's a long time - how much has Portland changed in that time? I notice so much new construction downtown and that's just in the space of 24 months...

Bit off topic, but I was just peering through the Marketplace forum and spotted your post/thread ... good luck with your new Life Science Research business. Nice to see British expats starting up businesses over here. Good luck with it.

Thank you very much for your kind words. Life Science Search is an Executive Search firm ie. Headhunting for the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industries - work nationally but I've worked mostly in California so far.

Lived in Portland from '96 to '02 and moving back in the summer. Can't say enough good things about the place.
