Chavs is a thing that is after my time. I have been here 17 years and even when I went back 10 years ago, I had never heard of a chav.

LOL, You are right. Virgin has a non-stop from here to Gatwick and the ahem passengers are quite the spectacle. Last time the flight attendants and I had quite a laugh at the expense of a rowdy group of would-be louts.

Someone posted a while back that they were on a flight and a bunch of them kept telling the flight attendant to 'take it off and show us yer tits luv'....

A friend of mine here lived there for many years and actually loved it. She'd go back if hubby could get a job back there again.

UKgirl, is that British pub any good in Vegas then? I could never make it out of the casinos to have a drink in there.

You mean the Crown and Anchor on Trop and Maryland Pkwy?
Yeah it is actually. It is quite close to UNLV so attracts a lot of college age kids.
They serve nice food and they sell a few items too. I don't go there that often, but I do go to an Irish pub in this casino, which is good.

There are a lot of Brits here and quite a few Brit grocery stores.

The Crown and Anchor, that's the one. I don't think I'll ever visit Vegas again, it used to be cheap for rooms and you could actually drive up the strip without it taking forever. Now it's overpriced and a tad busy. Quite a few people from so cal I knew actually started going to Reno instead.

Back to the topic....

I have lived around Irvine for the last 2 years and love it. It is a great place but there are parts of the OC to avoid.

Where are you thinking about in OC? More importantly what's your budget for Mortgage/Rent and how close to the beach do you need to be??

:-)

I'm from near Bath if you want to see ugly tourists, you should the Americans in the UK. You can spot them at a distance (usually 'cause you can hear them a mile away) with their plaid shorts, baseball caps, long socks and sandals. I could go on, but then I would be stereotyping all Americans. And by the way my husband is American and wears his England shirt with pride, and is as far from a 'chav' as you can get.

Hi, I'm from your neck of the woods. My husband was born in Bath. I was born in Hampshire. And my kids, Bristol and Salisbury. So know home area well. I also am now in PA - where is Orange County?

Smile Re: Orange County, Anyone there?

Anyhow, husband is going for a job in Orange County (California) and although I have heard of the area, I know nothing about it in any depth to be able to know where is a good area (or not good area) to live in, what are the schools like (probably very variable too) we have 2 children aged 7 and 4. Ideally I would like to be in a more countryfied area or at least a suburb with some sort of open green village like feel to it. if anyone knows of any property websites I could use that would be great. I am assuming we will rent to start off with as we will keep our house in the UK and rent that out too. No idea of budget as yet, but would as a minimum need a 4 bed house and a garden is a must. All sensible suggestions welcome!

Yes I have seen many an ugly American as tourists. My hubby is also American and he cringes when he sees them and keeps his mouth shut. In fact, Americans are pretty unpopular in the UK, so he is very low-key when he visits, which I have to force him to do these days. I only persuaded him this year when I threw in Amsterdam and Paris.
