Default Opening bank account

Hey Guys..

My husband (USC) and myself (UKC) will be moving to New York end of October and came to the discussion of opening a bank account when we arrive.

My hubby moved here nearly 2 years ago and never formally closed his Chase bank account - he wants us to use Chase now for our banking.
Would he be able to reactivate his account?

Otherwise what will we need to be able to open an account?

We are staying in a AirBNB for a month whilst looking for a apartment so no permanenet address yet however we both have full time employment upon moving.

Does he still have access to his account on-line? Does he received any statements/communications from Chase? Has he contacted Chase and asked if the account is still open?

He says he still gets emails from them. Doesn't remember his online banking at all.
Will get him to call them and see if its still active?

I doubt anyone on here works for Chase.

Just call them up and see what they say.

Not sure why you didn't just do that originally.

Well I actually asked what I would need to open a new bank account?
We won't have a permanent address as explained above which i'm sure is a requirement.
The reason why I mentioned his chase account is because when he moved here I converted my account into a joint so I assumed we may be able to do the same. Just exploring options.

To open a new bank account, the USC just needs a photo ID and an address. A work address can be used until you get a home address.

If he already has a viable Chase account there should be no problem with the address. Not sure what you'd need to show to get added to his account these days, but someone else here should know....

We opened a Chase account long ago when we moved to Texas, then left some money in it when we moved back home. We more or less forgot about it for 15 years...but when we again moved to the US 5 yrs ago, we went into the local branch with our IDs and got new ATM cards & cheques with no problem. We told the bank we were in temporary accommodation & would update them when we found permanent place to live.

You actually also asked, "Would he be able to reactivate his account?".
The only people who can answer that is Chase bank.

As others have said, not having a permanent address is unlikely to be a problem.

Adding a second person to an account happens all the time. Again Chase will tell you their precise requirements, but it will entail ID and an address.
