Only In New York City
Have been quite blase about filming in New York City. I walk pass outdoor film sites almost daily during the warmer months and except for a brief glance don't pay it nevermind. That goes for the Music Awards when they are held at the Waldorf or filming of a movie, Sex And The City or Law and Order. However, this morning they were filming a commercial for Pillsbury on the steps of St. Bart's Church between 50 and 51st and Park. I stopped and laughed at the filming of "A Sweeter America". Chanters holding placards saying "Vote for Brownies" and other sweets were being filmed with the Pillsbury Doughboy. A laughable moment to start the day.

There's a couple of scenes from the new Adam Sandler movie that were filmed on those steps last summer. They were there for about a week, and for some reason, despite working about 2 blocks away and walking past the trailers twice a day, I never bothered even checking out the set until the last day, when they just wrapped the shooting, and all the stars had gone home. Bugger!

its works out cheaper for the studios... less taxes (more to write off) and easier permits, usually no unions & guilds etc. Like many places, CO make it near damn difficult for major motion pictures to filmed here so the studios tend to say forget it.

Noticed that several times. One of the give aways is the tall building with the big yellow 'Bay Company' sign on the top.

I saw film crews on the Univerisity of Toronto campus all the time. Fox shot a short-lived tv show called Class of '96 there. If anyone saw that show, and remembers a scene with the actors sitting in a parking lot amongst dumpsters and garbage bags, I was a few meters away suffering through my Ph.D. thesis defence.

Lore has it that a city crew once unknowingly cleaned up a streetful of prop garbage while the film crew was on a meal break.

Or TTC streetcars rumbling by in the background...

Last King of Scotland, I'm reliably informed, was shot in Clinton.
