Online Shops in the USA

Ok, back in the UK I do a lot of shopping online, I find it easier without a car and finding specifics, and searching reviews etc.

Back home I use amazon.co.uk, play.com for electronics.
I use say asos.com for my clothes.

Then a lot of other neat websites here and there.

But also, I'm now having to furnish an apartment from scratch, so I need to get a lot of things ranging from sofas, to beds, to lampshades.

Also things for groceries I used to do my bi-weekly shops even online...

I wondered if people would share any online site and services they have used for purchasing all this stuff and other things so I can start building up some USA Bookmarks for this.

It's weird how much you take for granted as common knowledge when in the UK, struggling also to decide on a bank right now, the guides on the site are helping though - thanks

OK; for household items and furniture a good place to look is:

http://www.overstock.com

http://www.target.com

http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com

http://www.amazon.com

you may even wish to order items from

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/

I have no idea of your budget or location, but other sources for furniture (albeit more pricey than the above are):

http://www.potterybarn.com

http://www.crateandbarrel.com (their http://www.cb2.com/ division is for small scale furniture for apartments)

http://www.restorationhardware.com

Clothing and shoes

http://www.6pm.com

http://www.zappos.com

http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/division.do?cid=15963 (for men)

Can't help you with supermarket shopping (unless you are in the New York metro area); there is no national US chain of supermarket/online shopping in the same vein as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose or Asda - but there are local equivalents.

Same as above for banking....Bank of America in many places, HSBC, Wells Fargo, Chase - in some States but not all of them. You need to state your location for more precise help!

Thanks for all that!

And sorry, I'll be based out of Seattle. Here's me forgetting how big the States really is hehe.

My favorite when I get into town is http://www.worldmarket.com/home/index.jsp but they have the same stuff online.
Most towns seem to have a Target where I have bought lots of household electronics and towels, bedding etc.

For food delivery, one thing you might want to look into is a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). Ours delivers fresh fruit, veg, bread, dairy, meat, jams and sauces to our house, and even some toiletries and cleaning supplies. It's definitely not a comprehensive weekly shop, but it provides enough that we only have to supplement it with trips to CostCo

http://www.newegg.com is good for electronics. Try http://www.woot.com for a great daily deal. You may also want to consider joining CostCo for both shopping in person and for home delivery from their website - they deliver electronics, furniture, home appliances, exercise equipment, etc to your home. You pay a membership fee once a year ($50 or $100 depending) and you reap the benefits from the good deals they offer.

Don't know what your lifestyle is like, but:

Outdoorsy/sports equipment and clothing: http://www.rei.com or http://www.llbean.com
Cleaning supplies, toiletries, over-the-counter meds: http://www.drugstore.com
Contact lenses: http://www.1800contacts.com
Cheap flights and/or hotels: http://www.priceline.com
The equivalents of Homebase and B&Q are http://www.lowes.com and http://www.homedepot.com
Video games: http://www.gamestop.com and http://www.gohastings.com
Office supply stores: http://www.officemax.com , http://www.staples.com , http://www.officedepot.com

You can order almost anything online in the US! Good luck!

I think Amazon's range of products in the US is a bit larger than they offer in the UK. You might also look into an Amazon Prime membership which will give you free 2-day shipping on all orders (for $79 a year or so).

You may also love Zappos.com. Free shipping (both ways) on shoes. Order, if you don't like, return for free.

You'll have plenty of options for online ordering in the US.

Can't go wrong with Amazon...if there's something you want that's in the UK, and you want it in the US that's already bookmarked, you can use the same url address, just change .co.uk to .com and if it's here, it'll pop up.

http://www.arhaus.com/ If you've got he money, they've got really nice quality furniture.

Most grocery stores have a home delivery system too.
