Default Online gambling in the US..the truth?

Hi there I am wondering if anyone knows the truth. I hear from some people that in the US you cannot gamble online. I then hear from others that its not illegal to actually gamble or place a bet online but it's that you cant add funds from your bank account into an online betting account...(which if is the case then how do you get to but a bet down or anything like that if you cant fund the account???)

I'm not sure what to believe or not to believe though.

BTW I'm no heavy gambler .... just but back home i used to like putting a 2 GBP bet on a 6 team accumilator on the football....soccer... on a Saturday online but havent done so since being here as I am not sure if you can/should or not. (also not sure what US sites are out there anyway!)

Hope somebody may be able to clear this up for me....

The answer is, it depends.

There are various federal and state laws at play, some of which have been used against online gamblers and some of which are basically ignored.

http://vegasclick.com/online/legal.html

The US government has gone after foreign gambling websites that have accepted US money, going so far as to arrest gambling executives out of airports when passing through the USA. Most large online shops (Will Hill, etc) try to avoid having US residents as customers if at all possible.

If you really really want to find a way to bet online, you can, and you probably won't have much to fear from a fiver here and there. But if you are looking to gamble full-time online as a career in the USA it might be a bit of a pain.

Or you could invest in the stock market. Fully legal and the odds are just as questionable.

Reading that site... I'll think I'll leave it. Not worth the hassle and not knowing if you should or shouldnt makes me thing best just to not bother. As I say...i'm just a casual punter when I was back home... nothing serious and makes watching a game of football more exciting if you had a couple of quid on it....thats all.
