Check out a local community college?

Or check brick and mortar uni's and see which of them have online courses if that is what you still want to do...you'll find they're much better than specific online colleges, which tend to be a bit of a joke.

tried the local college and didnt go through (too many people registered and I was on the waiting list)
I need something I can start now (rather than specific semester dates) and can do at home more than a course I have to go to on specific time

Problem is the only accountancy qualification recognized here is a CPA or MBA, most companies want a minimum of a Bachelors Degree ideally with a focus on Accounting. Do you have UK qualifications that would convert?

What course did you try get on?

My sister got her MBA online through University of Phoenix. Try them.

OP would need a Bachelors Degree (or equivalent) to get onto an MBA course though.

I thought maybe Univ of Phoenix also would have an accounting/bookkeeping course in the online curriculum.

Ah! with you now. They might, but they would be kind of pointless as not recognized in the workplace.

my idea was to do a small bookkeeping course so when im allowed to work here, Ill be able to work for myself doing bookeeping for small companies (Ie restaurants etc) I am AAT qualified (Accounting technician) in the UK but there is nothing like this here, this is why I thought I could do a US equivalent...

well for something equivalent, it would depend on what your state requirements are...so start looking there I'd guess.

The two people I know who do that sort of thing (on the side, for small companies), both have an MBA. They both each have a regular full time job - one in the accounting field, and one not in the accounting field.
