OJ Simpson... "(If) I did it"... published!

"this week – to general astonishment and not a little head-scratching – If I Did It is finally hitting US bookshelves. It is published not by HarperCollins but by a small private company called Beaufort Books. And the whole enterprise, remarkably, is endorsed and managed by Ron Goldman's father Fred.

Here's how it happened. Mr Goldman quickly overcame the disgust he expressed publicly last year and realised that the unpublished manuscript of If I Did It was an asset he could legitimately chase as part of Simpson's unpaid legal settlement."

Frankly, it SICKENS me beyond belief.

I saw Nicole being interviewed with the publisher on the Today show a few weeks ago, and she really laid into the publisher.

Sick.

It seems strange to me that although O.J. was found innocent in criminal court, a civil court can find him liable for the deaths and make him pay out millions to the families of those involved. This kind of thing simply would'nt happen in the UK, when a not guilty verdict means you are not liable civilly or criminally.

It sickens me, also. I will refuse to even look at the cover in a book store...unless it's to turn it over/bury it under other books so no one will be tempted to look at/buy it.

I'm not sure this is correct...

But Nicole is dead...

Do you mean her sister?

Being found not guilty in a criminal court does not exempt you from prosecution for responsibility in civil proceedings. It's unusual for it to happen in personal cases though, it's more likely to be in cases of corporate manslaughter etc etc.

apparently the family published it because the rights that they hold were held by a holding company that had debts, so the assets were being forced to make money...so some such rubbish...but all the same, who really cares about the book? All in poor taste.

It all to do with standard of proof/evidence

Criminal you need...Beyond a reasonable doubt

Civil you just need ..A preponderance of evidence

So you think OJ went for a round of golf the morning before the trial so his joints would swell up a bit then? :D

He's still up to no good:

O.J. Simpson has been questioned by police in connection with a break-in at a Las Vegas casino hotel.

Police said yesterday that they were treating Simpson as a suspect in the reported burglary at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino, in which sports memorabilia is believed to have been stolen.

So basically, Mr Goldman is throwing away any integrity he may have had just to pocket the hard cash.
I find that just as sickening as the book itself.
