Off Topic- World Cup
Just wondering if anyone had any info on if the World Cup is going to be televised in
the US and what network will they be on. Thanks |
Re: Off Topic- World Cup
It looks like all the games will be shown on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC. With any luck, we'll see some play in between the commercials. Don't know if the commentary will be up to much though - best to keep expectations low.

Previously, and I have no reason to suspect they'll do otherwise, they do not interrupt coverage for commercials. Instead companies sponsor ten minute (or so) blocks and have their logo up in the corner of the screen. It's not even very obstrusive. They've also imported foreign commentators before - sometimes for very good reasons though! Andy. -- I'm not really here - it's just your warped imagination. |

The USA finally has a team which will spank the rest of the world in soccer, just
like we do in every other sport. -- "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and they are safe." I think you're forgetting that the soccer "world" cup has a different (accurate) definition of "world" than other sports the US excels in ;) Actually, they've got a better chance than England this time around :( ... as a new permanent resident, though, I can show my loyalty to my adopted country by support their soccer team - until they play England anyway! 'Soccer'? What's 'soccer'? I've heard of FOOTBALL... ;) Dave.

OMG !!!
The wide world of sports is getting kinky. Spanking in soccer???? Bare bottomed I hope ;-))) Dog eating competition? But thought you said world cup. Thought dog eating was limited to certain countries were man's best friend is considered a delicacy? Who knows a little about soccer 'cause her niece plays for St. John's University on a full soccer scholarship. Football is where big men who in normal clothes would be considered obese but are thought to be underweight when wearing uniforms tight enough to show the family jewels. Rete |

What? Did you watch them Sunday play against the Netherlands....they LOST....and
Netherlands did not make it to the World Cup. -- Lisa www.britsintheus.com/marriednhappy/timeline-aos.htm "Albino Shaq" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected]... > The USA finally has a team which will spank the rest of the world in soccer, > just like we do in every other sport. > > -- > "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and they are > safe." Re: Off Topic- World Cup
Totally agree Dave.......look it is football and thats it......thats why the
"American" is placed in front of football to indicate a totally different game. I will always call it football, living in America or not. As to the USA's chances in the world cup.......eh..sorry but I can't see it. In saying that I would like to see them do well, as it will be good for my fiance's little boy who is fast becoming a football genius, and as my team never even qualified...but then we didnt have to face Guatemala, Barbados and Trinidad along the way???? Not the hardest qualifying round is it. Anyway, hopefully I arrive the night before France open against Senegal...much to the joy of my fiance who hasn't seen me in 7 months only to lose me for a month to the world cup........ESPN....I do HAHAHAHAHA Good luck to all nations involved....and America......I love you really.....now Scotland......do it for 2006 G Dave and Emily <nottellingyou@all> wrote in message news:Xns921694C4FAF3Edavelamb68hotma...209.249.90.101... > 'Soccer'? Sorry friends, there is still nothing like "smash-mouth" tackle football, although I
do admire the conditioning of soccer athletes. I give you a quote from that great international ambassador of goodwill, Charles Barkley, when asked by a Nigerian Olympian if he would give him his basketball shoes. -- "Heck no. Your job is to get your butt kicked and go back to your third world country!!" Bonus Quote: Texas representative Dick Armey speaking with Egyptian Prime Minister Hazni Mubarak: "I don't speak Arabic but I use your numerals all the time." -- "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and they are safe." One of the countries hosting the competition this year is South Korea. There's been a big brouhaha because the government's been trying to persuade restaurants to take dog off the menu during the championships! Andy. -- I'm not really here - it's just your warped imagination. |
Re: Off Topic- World Cup
Well that explains it then. That is what might have been on the menu if the South Koreans win ;-)))
But keep them away from the dog sledding competition in Alaska. A little rough on cats if they have to pull those sleds. And all that hissing and clawing is bound to distract from the true purpose of the race. Rete |
