Re: Obama care - prospects for UK med student
thanks monfed i guess its a fear of the unknown more than anything. hope you are right about UK grads being looked more favourable. naturally we cant expect yale etc to be knocking our door down! i am ok about going anywhere i mean that. i do want h1 though and would take a 'lesser' program with h1 than a better one with j1.
well ozzidoc at least u know that now am sure there are cases of people that dont know, get a spot in that state and are scuppered!
a lot of the caribbean ones seem to be off limits too!

Definitely go for the H1b as J1 will leave you having to go to the middle of nowhere after residency (under served area) , or back to UK for 2 years.

Just found this website and seen this thread. I will be starting an IM residency this July on an H1b visa so more than happy to answer any questions.
It definitely is doable and my USMLE scores were nowhere near as good as yours. If you want more stats, ECFMG have produced an IMG Match document: www.ecfmg.org/echo/imgs-2012-match.pdf and the stats from this year's match: www.nrmp.org/data/advancedatatables2013.pdf

Could you at least speak English correctly, please? 'yr email' is not English. It's noise. Please stop it.

Sorry horace and jeff but cut some slack guys!
Agree monfed maybe poor handwriting is now translating to the online form!
I will resist from 'txt talk' from now on but I'm sure you know monfed some of the acronyms written in medical notes are far from complimentary!
