NYC Transport Strike.....huge fines for union and strikers

Have to go into NYC soon as I'm taking my daughter to see 'The Nutcracker' at the Lincoln Center. Unfortunately there is a subway and bus strike in the city and we will have to walk from Penn Station (34th St) up to the Lincoln Center (64th Street area). Good job it's the matinee as I wouldn't fancy trying to get back to Penn late at night....you can't get a taxi for love nor money and they've hiked the fares as well.

The union is being fined $1 million per day and each worker can be fined twice his daily wages for each day of the strike...now in Day 2....

It would have put a smile on Maggie Thatcher's face....

Ahh yes it has been fun getting in and out of NYC the past 2 days. How much longer do you all think this will last?

I'm utterly ignorant on the subject. Maybe someone can explain to me why a union is not allowed to strike?

A court order is in place that says that they cannot strike. It's like the Police back home - I think they have it in their contracts that they cannot go on strike.

2nd day of the strike and it's starting to get a bit annoying.

Seriously, no one has a right to employment. If you hate your job that much leave. Stop taking the wage and go find other work. Unless, that is, one is too unemployable as to find other works (lots of train drivers thinking of becoming doctors, pilots, DNA specialists?) in which case tough.

Welcome to your place in the food chain.
