Nursing
Hey guys,
i posted something like this already in the Nursing section but was just interested on any advice anyone here may also have? I'm 25 and my sister lives in New Jersey, and ideally i would like to live somewhere in New England but not in a massive city. Any advice/help gratefully received.

Re: Nursing
Having RN after your name used to be an easy ticket to the US but things have slowed right down in recent years. Be prepared for a long wait.
There is also the issue of you having to top up your hours in maternity, paeds, and psych, as the UK fall short of the required hours in those particular sub-specialities.

So long as you get moved before your license is 10 years old, you just need a bit of top up. I needed Pharmacology and OB/GYN only.
My friend who waited and did her Sick children's nurse training in London was told in NJ when she got here, she'd have to re train completely as she had been a nurse for 12 years at that point and they only accepted transcripts that were under 10 years old. (this was in the 90's)
Can't you take the NCLEX from the UK now?

Re: Nursing
Yes you can.
But unless you're a US citizen or married to one, it's slim chances of getting here and wait times on a nurse, might be better looking at other avenues.
To the OP...doesn't really matter where to look until you are able to come and where you can get a job.
Plenty of nursing jobs in Maine, mostly for elderly care though....and Portland would fir your bill as a none massive city....but then again if you hate the oppressive cold you might not like Maine, though Portland is a sunny picnic compared to northern maine.

With retrogression expect a long wait and that is after you ave gone through the state nursing board, sat and passed NCLEX and found a employer.

If your sister is a USC then she can sponsor you, also a long wait.
