It depends on two things: Where is your wife from, and what state does she want to work in? States such as Tennessee do not require CGFNS from Canadian nurses, for instance, although they still need to have passed the NCLEX. States like Alabama require, at the very least CES credentials done through CGFNS, though the stupid CGFNS exam is not needed - again only if the person has their NCLEX already. It's easiest for Canadian nurses. I would recommend you get your wife to call the board of nursing of the state you're interested in and ask them for details. Make her speak to the director of licensing at the board of nursing, since other people can be incompetent and give you incorrect information. |

See also http://www.ncsbn.org/public/regulati...sing_board.htm. Unless your wife is from Canada, she will probably have to get her "green card" before entering the U.S. to work, because there is no feasible temporary status which can be used to employ a nurse other, than TN, which requires Canadian citizenship. However, hospitals will hire you and wait till you get the green card, even if it takes a year or more, because they are so desperate. There are nursing recruiters all over who will be wild to get her business. They can get $5000 to $10,000 from a prospective employer, just for successfully referring you to the employer. You can get the immigration work paid for by most employers -- be sure you have good legal help, because nurse immigration is quite tricky. |
