Fire ants.

The bug inspection guy said use a treatment that contains Fipronil, he swears by it. I cannot find it in Home Depot, Lowes etc, so if anyone knows a where to buy it please let me know.

I still don't know for sure I just hope I never get biten/stung by the same thing again.

I wonder if it was a deer/horse fly bite. I can usually feel them...not always depends what I'm doing. A wasp doesn't leave it's stinger behind...a bee does and then dies.

Not having a good time at the moment either with the mozzies. Had a whopper of a bite on my calf last week - my first one, got hot and grew to about four inches. I've had DVT and as I'd recently flown and calf hotspots are a trigger I was pretty worried until I discovered it was just a mozzie.

The little b****rs seem to bit through clothes too. My right knee is now swollen and quite painful because all the bites have merged into one huge one.

Try the product I mentioned in post #54...I've used it for about 10 years. I recommend it every year because there are always numerous threads in the forums on mozzies. I get it direct from the company but a couple of people on here last year said they bought it cheaper from Amazon.

This product is fairly new...I haven't tried it but I imagine it's similar and probably cheaper.

I was interested in this when I read about it -- but just picked up the new Consumer Reports and they have a review. Apparently all their testers were getting bitten and had to stop the test! They also said that the instructions say not to breathe the product, but that is a little hard when a fan attached to your waist is blowing it around you all the time. So I guess it's back to the spray.

I would never put the sprays on my skin...they take the colour out of plastic. Besides if I miss a tiny little patch of skin the bugs will find it.

I saw a report on TV last summer...a man and a women went into a tent of mozzies testing out various products and remedies. The only thing that worked was eucalyptus or eucalyptus/lemon. I don't know what the Off product contains but you can smell the eucalyptus in the Lentek product..

I've always used Cutter products -- they used to have a stick that I liked, though nowadays they seem to all be sprays. I don't find them as apparently toxic as some of the others. However, I only use it when I'm going in the woods, and as sparingly as possible, and wash it off as soon as I get home. I would never sit around in it.

All I know is, it is not an experience I care to repeat!

The only thing that really works... pure DEET... takes the paint off the bottle. I'm not sure you can buy it anymore
