Hi dunroving i would consider the hostel bit as a couple its tricky, couchsurfing is a short term solution and i think that will be what we do until we find a room, of theres something else i can organise from this end though id prefer it. Cheers :-)

Well you can't really dictate the advice you get on an online forum. Why don't you just say thank you and use what you need instead of being cranky?

The problem is that you do need ESTA advice, you just don't realize it. By staying to the last possible moment you are risking creating life-long problems for yourself, by potentially disqualifying yourself from using the VWP. I am sorry you don't see that, but you are one cancelled flight, one snowstorm/nasty thunderstorm, one mechanical failure, one Icelandic volcano, one industrial action, one trip to the A&E, one terrorist attack, etc. away from needing a visa for all future visits to the USA.

Pulaski Im asking you politely now to stop as I have mentioned previously the advice that I needed and with regards to esta I kindly would like to statethat I do not. The government body I work for provides this at a professional level for free. I am on here seeking friendly advice with regards to accomodation in New York for me and my partner. If I do need esta advice I will join another thread offering it. I dont want this thread or your comments to affect me getting the answers that will be most useful to me. I feel Ive explained myself quite clearly now. There are other threads regarding esta that Im sure you could become involved in if you have no knowlege of accomodation. Thanks so much for your input, Im ever so grateful but this thread was written to get advice just for accomodation. Happy new year

Unfortunately when you post on a forum that's open to the public you cannot dictate what type of replies you will receive. I suggest you put Pulaski on ignore if you do not wish to read his comments.

Almost every day we get new members wanting to come to the US who have no idea about ESTA or visas. If people wish to ignore the advice that's their prerogative.

Out of interest I would like to know what type of visa you have.

So you cannot afford 3 months in a motel/hotel, right?

And you have less than 3 weeks to find somewhere to stay?

Wouldn't it have been easier to let your partner come over and use accommodation that is available for her and you come over for maybe a month in the middle of her stay which might mean you could afford somewhere comfortable to stay?

Just a suggestion

In the interests of fairness, Pulaski is right on this point (duration of stay).

Correct. If the OP doesn't have the correct documentation this thread is mute.

Back to the OP's original question, if Airbnb is too expensive and you don't want to risk Craigslist, then your options are likely to be severely curtailed unless you know someone in New York who is willing to put you up. If anyone on this forum has that kind of accommodation available, or knows anyone who does, then the likelihood is they are already advertising it through those two sites.

Has the UN offered you any assistance or advice in regards to accommodation?
