Embrace it.
For as many people there are that will have difficulty understanding you, there will be at least as many who think your accent is amazing.
Ten years in and I'm still getting compliments.

It used to concern and irritate me that I would have to repeat myself. I finally came to accept it is just a part of who I am here in the US.

In CommieFornia 27.2% of the population are foreign born. Maybe it is just the immigrants who do not understand your accent

I agree 100%, with the added bonus for me that my accent has the opposite effect on women here in the US that it seemed to have on women in London.
