Non VoIP Phone Options

Hi,

Finally getting ourselves sorted with somewhere to live - can only manage the in-laws for so long!

The place we're going to be renting doesn't have cable or DSL, so we're having to get satellite internet connectivity. I'm told this doesn't work so well with VoIP telephone providers like Vonage.

So, anyone got any recommendations for other telephone service providers with good rates to the UK?

Cheers,
Aaron

Well, it will depend on where you are. We have a choice of 1 phone company, and they are shite. I use a calling card for the UK calls, www.onesuite.com, 2c per min. Let me know if you are going to do it and I'll send you a referral link and we'll g et some free call time.

If you have cell phone coverage Cingular offer a $3.99 add-on to your monthly plan that gets you 6c per minute to the UK. Calling cards are usually the absolute cheapest option if you have a landline to use.

You sound like you're in the sticks in Virginia. You are in Verizon land line territory right now. I'd check your local Yellow Pages for telephone service providers. There should be some in your area that should offer you a good deal.

What she said and the use 10 10 297 or one of the other 10 10 services for international calls. 10 10 297 costs 39 cents for the call plus 3 cents per minute for UK. http://www.1010297.com/

I use onesuite.com for making international calls. It's far more convenient than buying calling cards and you only pay for calls you make and there's no service charge or monthly fee. You do have to pay for credit in advance though and it lasts six months.

Another similar choice - nobelcom http://www.nobelcom.com/ calls to the UK are about 2c, you maintain your account online, topping up with $50 or $20 whenever you want. The credit never expires. You can use the same account for calls within the US, so we only pay for local service from Verizon, & use nobelcom for any US long distance.

Thanks for the info guys. Yep, we're in the sticks in Virginia and hoping the satellite will at least work most of the time!!

The calling plan options look great.
