Default Non Contract ADSL Internet Access?

Hi All,
In the UK I have non contract broadband Internet access. It suits me fine as we will be moving home and therefore we are not tied into a contract for the usual 12 months minimum. I pay over the odds for this privilege in the UK around £25 per month having to give a months notice to terminate. I’ll be in the US shortly for 2 months and would like to sign up to the same. Anyone know of an ISP who provides this service in the US? I’m sure I’ll pay a premium but it’s got to be better than signing up for 12 months and not using 10 of them. Or has anyone got any alternative ideas. I have a US Bank Account but am a UK resident.

You should be able to get Cable broadband access with no contract to sign you just pay month to month. It will probably cost in the $40 per month region.

I always forget something ! Central Florida, hadn't considered cable as we don't have it where we live in the UK. I connect via a USB/ADSL modem in UK. Whats the situation with connecting it to cable? Do I, will I need a cable modem? Cable provider is Brighthouse.

You can buy a cable modem for about $50-$100 or rent one from your cable company for about $3-$5 per month. In most areas there is only one cable company providing service and they usually give a discount on internet if you get their TV service. I prefer cable to DSL, faster and no commitment (but usually more expensive)

adelphia offer $45 a month with no contract, and $3 rent for a cable modem...but the service is dodgy, here in town we get top 2mb/s, same service in the next town is 6.5mb/s for the same money...oh, these rates might be because we also get basic tv cable as well, can't remember...

Brighthouse will provide you with a cable box, month-to-month option.

But Verizon, the telephone company, has been laying down a fiber optic network the last few months, which is faster than anything now available, and their pricing seems to be cheaper.

Check here to see if it is available in your area. If not, it should be soon.
