So, err.... what's up with the Cypriots and the Maltese?
They were both part of the British Empire until they were given their freedom.

Michael,

All EU citizens resident in the UK can register to vote. UK, Irish, Maltese and Cypriot citizens can then vote in all elections. Citizens of other EU countries may only vote in local elections (including those to the Devolved institutions) and in European elections (if they do not vote in there home-Country's European elections).

I miss it sometimes, too! Especially when it's informal such as this forum. But I think with Mr Morgan's job, I'd take a little more care.

Wow, David, what has got into you - 2 risqué innuendos this morning already. Where might it all lead?

Ah, but you missed the superfluous hyphen and the miscapitalised 'c' (and 'd').

I'm perhaps more versed in Eurospeak so tend to ignore those little distractions

On another note: I'm new here. I won't be Stateside for a particularly long period of time - I'm doing an academic exchange year at Georgetown from the Uni of Sussex. It's my second week in the US, and I'm slowly but surely starting to discover that things are very different than they are in England...

One of the most common mistakes Brits make when coming to the US is forgetting that, regardless of language and history, they are still in a foreign country.

The USA is just as foreign as Italy or Brazil but that fact is masked by popular image.
