Britain has absorbed wave after wave of migration - just like the US.
Celts, Romans, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Danes, Normans, Huguenots, Russians, Poles, Chinese, Italians, Irish, West Indians, Asians, East Europeans etc etc etc
Every wave has been greeted with the same suspicion, resentment and fear. But, as Duncs says, (most) immigrants (legal or illegal) work hard to make their way in their new country. And, guess what, everyone reading this board is descended from one or more of the groups I listed above.
Duncs is correct in that the birth rate in the UK is less than the death rate. So, the UK needs immigration to pay for the 'native' population as they head into old age.
If you don't believe me, look at Japan. Aging population, no bugger wants to move there - they'll slowly go (even more) bankrupt over the next few decades.

Agree entirely with your view the only problem with immigration i can see is more diversity and that never worried me.
