Default No more red double-decker buses :(

End of the road for London's iconic Routemaster bus

One of the things I've always wanted to do since I was a little kid was ride on one of London's red double-decker buses. The one visit I made to England in 2003 did not include this experience, mostly because Mark thought it was silly -- "It's just a bus!" he said.

Well, now I don't know when I'll have the chance, if ever.

The funny thing is, I'm not British but even *I* feel a little sad that these buses are being decommissioned. How do you Brits feel about it? Like Mark does, or like I do?

The buses will still run on designated "tourist routes" and others will be sold to tour companies to use for guided tours.

You can already hire them for parties. I went on a hen night on one around the west end with various bus stops at bars and clubs. One night I'd prefer to forget :scared:

Yay!! (Of course that means it will cost more money -- and even LESS chance that I'll be able to go on one, since Mark probably wouldn't be caught dead on a tourist bus in London!)

Oh yeah, the phone boxes! The difference is that (if you have the dinero) you can actually buy a red British phone box if you really wanted to!

What a sad day, I'm just glad that they won't be totally gone.

i don't know, not really bothered, as long as there are a few about; it's like the red telephone booth thing. They both quite often smelt of vomit or worse too.
