NI Class 2 varying amount question

Greetings all---newbies here hoping you can help us out. Husband and I moved from London to Ohio in August 2006 and have an NI question:

Husband is 50, paid 23 yrs in and got the summary to pay Class 2 for the past 7 years (2006/7-2012/13) to reach his 30 yrs. Years 2007/8-2012/13 are as expected: 52 weeks at 2.65/137.80 a year (53wks for 2008-9 and reduced rate of 2.50 for 2011-12)

Question we have is that the first year, 2006-2007 is 19 weeks at 13.25 or 251.75 for the year. We assume this relates to the move here/being employed there for part of a year--he finished work in May 2006 and received 3 mths lump sum pay, we moved here in Aug 2006, he started US work in Nov 2006.

Does that 13.25 per week amount seem correct? We'll ring up the caseworker but want to be prepared--I've tried to do my research but I don't see anything about differing yearly amounts (apols if missing it).

Many thanks, Liz.

Re: NI Class 2 varying amount question

Maybe the 13.25 is Class 3 contribution rate, not Class 2.

Cheers for that--it is indeed the case. For the year we moved here he falls under class 3 'unemployed abroad or gaps in your contributions for the tax year'

I missed that first time round.
