Newbie K1

Phew! After 8 months of endless paperwork (we went through Nebraska!), i went to the US embassy in London last Thursday and after a medical (yes, you are breathing), 3 hours of waiting watching a dull powerpoint presentation ,was granted my K1 Fiance visa after a cursory, but jolly 5 minute interview. My Fiance is American and I am a Brit, we met 3 years ago and in 1990 I applied for a multiple entry tourist visa, explaining that I wished to visit the US on a regular basis. This was granted and I went back and forth every 6-8 weeks, notching up the Virgin Flying club points happilly. Unfortunately I flew back to Chicago on 9/11 and was diverted to Toronto, the airline put us up overnight in a hotel and bussed us down to the Detroit/Windsor border the next day. Mr 'man in a white shirt' didn't like the look of me, saw how many times I had been in country and basically sent me back to Canada in a taxi....no explanation, just stamped the visa 'application withdrawn' . A phone call later "Hello love, I'm in Canada and we may not see each other for a little while"!!!! After two years we decided that marriage may not be a bad thing after all, (Committment has never been top of my list of life skills!!!) Basically there you have it, flying out in January and looking forward to two years of never ending beaurocracy and visits from the ever cheerful BCIS guys at 2 in the morning (are you two actually having sex?) regards Andy

Trust me, once you are married, BCIS could care less if you are having sex or anything else. My son married an American about 8 years ago. At the 2 year point when the restriction of the gc was lifted he went back for another interview. Took along all the wedding photos, all the bills for the apt etc and they did not look at anything, so relax.

Windsor's not a bad town.

I'd have dumped her and got a job at the Casino as International Gigolo.

but that's just me.

A gigolo in Windsor ? Now that's what I call an uphill struggle.

Congratulations Andy!! :)

Make the most of the time, once you're here, before you're married, cos once you've tied the knot, it's onto the next set of paperwork in the form of your AOS application!!

The fun never ends!! :D

Best wishes

Tam :)
