New York - New Years Eve
Hi All
I have booked a trip to New York for New Years Eve, I have never been before and am taking my girlfriend there for a treat. I just wondered if there are any particular things that would be really worthwhile seeing whilst we are there?. I have been surfing around on the internet and obviously looking at Times Square but I am sure everyone will have an opinion and the most memorable things to see and do in the four short days we are there. We are staying near Madison Square Garden! All suggestions gratefully received :D |

See this article: http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/12/01/bedbug.suit.ap/ All this nastiness aside, you picked a good area. You are well located for the subways (which must be running by new year!!) and for theatre, shopping etc. Enjoy! |
Re: New York - New Years Eve
Stay clear of Time Square. If you want to be in the square itself you need to be their by around 16:00. I'm opting for dinner in a nice restaurant followed by Midnight festivities in my local pub.
Hardly setting the world alight but it will do me :) |

Times Square is just a zoo at New Year's....done it once and never again....it's absolutely *freezing* and the ball drop was a disappointment. Ironically my husband works in Times Square on the 23rd floor of his building and until recently his desk actually faced directly where the ball drops just a few yards away. Unfortunately the building security staff have a lock-down on Dec 31st so employees can't get in to watch it in the warmth! :(
You might enjoy ice-skating in the open-air.....last night my husband and daughter skated in Bryant Park, just two blocks east of Times Square, next to the NYC public library between Fifth & Sixth Avenues: http://manhattan.about.com/od/govern...skatingnyc.htm Brooklyn is probably your best bet for the fireworks, but there will be some in Central Park at midnight for the NY Road Runners Club....they have a four-mile fun race (which my husband wants to do): http://www.nyrr.org/race/2005/r1231x00.php |
