Freakin' TSA.

So that'll be another £500 added to our moving costs for no good reason.

I'm in a planning meeting and only gave it a cursory glance, but unless you're a breeder, I don't see you being affected.

Continental and BA only accept pets as cargo on UK->US flights, not as checked baggage. United does take pets as checked baggage, so looking in to that right now. So it looks like we'll be flying United.

As I read the blog it only affects those not travelling at the same time as their pet?
Makes it a little more awkward but not impossible to ship the pet yourself.

The continental pet people told me that I need to have a registered agent drop the cat off at the airport, even if I'm on the same flight. So I'll be paying the agent to turn up, take the cat from me and hand it to them.

Hi

When I flew my dog out with me on United, accompanied, she went as excess baggage in the cargo hold. When I took my cat out with me, also accompanied, on BMI a year later, she had to go as cargo through an agent. (BMI's policy). The agent was World Cargo at the cargo terminal. They didn't come and get her from me, I had to take her there on my way to go to my terminal and the cost was about 275 GBP.

Each time I travelled with my pets, the paperwork I had to do was the same and letter from the vet etc was the same. I just dropped the cat off at a different place than the dog and I had to pay for the cat. We never did pay any excess baggage for the dog!

Ask the other airlines which agent they use for your dog travels in cargo and accompanied on the flight by you. It might not mean that you have to use one of the very expensive companies like Air Pets to do it all for you.

Good luck.

Maggie
