I don't know, I haven't been following the political verbiage much.

Here is Az Senator Pearce's take on the driver license being proof of citizenship. By the way, I have never been asked for my legal status in all the years I have carried an Az driver's license.

Talking of Russell Pearce, in this article which is mostly about Old Joe "lock 'em up" Arpaio, he admits they wrote SB 1070 for “this battle” against the Federal Government. That's not what Jan Brewer claimed before yesterday. She said it was to protect AZ citizens from the tide of illegal criminal immigrants. So all along they had a State Rights vs Federal Government battle in mind:

Pearce also believes the state will win the legal battle if it reaches the U.S. Supreme Court. “We wrote this for this battle,” Pearce said.

Under SB1070 an AZ DL is proof of legal status.
Aye, but plenty of people come over legally and then get out of status...

Under SB1070 an AZ DL is proof of legal status.
No, it's not. Presentation of an AZ DL merely creates a rebuttable presumption that the bearer is not in the US illegally. This is different. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arizona_SB_1070#Provisions

If SB1070 stated that presentation of a valid licence was proof of legal status in the US per se, it could create an absurdity: a person who had obtained an AZ DL legitimately but then fell out of legal status such as to be in the US illegally ... would be illegally in the US and subject to arrest as such under federal and AZ law, but would be able to prove their legal status in the US under AZ law by showing the DL.

Surely you're not suggesting that this is some sort of poorly thought-through legislation that produces undesirable and illogical results!

I never made any suggestions, just stating facts. Despite your rhetorical elegance enticing me to go somewhere I have no intention of going, I stand by the facts as I stated them.

Right, but your statement of the facts is clearly incorrect - which you'd know if you'd followed the link or read the text of the legislation. SB1070 does not state that an AZ DL is proof of legal status. It says that it creates a rebuttable presumption that the person presenting it is not in the US illegally.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about when you're saying I was enticing you to go somewhere but thank you for complimenting my rhetoric. (Next time hit the karma button too! ).
