Question Nevada - health insurance

Folks,

Does anyone know any reliable and affordable private insurance in Nevada? btw, it's not so necessary to have things like glasses and dental services included.

Cheers,

There are a few different Insurance companies here but I know that Anthem Blue Cross is the most prominent. We have Military but if we didn't we would go with Anthem. Here is a link to help choose. http://www.insurenv.com/ What part of NV are you in?

Thanks Creamern - I will check it out.

Still preparing to move, but I guess will end up with either Vegas or Henderson...

Cheers,

Henderson is nice but if you are planning Vegas we live in the NW area and so does another BritExpat. Very nice area..steer clear of anywhere near Nellis Air Force Base. Let me know if I can be of any help! When will the move happen?

Thanks a lot Nancy. We're off to the US as soon as we get our E3's - shouldn't take more than a month (hopefully!)...there's a lot of stuff to know

Cheers,
That wouldn't be anyway, you would need dental and vision for those. You may also need a prescription one if that's not covered under medical. Do you have any pre-existing conditions no matter how minor? That will have a major impact on getting insurance.

My daughter lived in the Red Rock Canyon area of Vegas for years and worked at the casino in Henderson for a while. Loved the area she lived in and yes, it was the opposite side of the city from the AFB. The Summerlin area is lovely.

Curious why you need private healthcare. The job you are going to doesn't offer healthcare?

Red Rock Canyon is gorgeous and Summerlin is very nice. I agree totally. We really like it up here in Centennial Hills area and very new and good stores. Just depends on where you work as to which part would be best. My husband actually works 30 miles N of here up 95 to Creech AFB. So we chose the closest area but still in Vegas. As far as Insurance goes if you have existing Insurance now you need to get a certificate from them stating you have been insured for the past year so you can show proof of it to the new company. If you have this then the issue of any prior health issues will most likely be insured as well.

As long as you haven't gone 63 days or more without it and as long as the plan qualifies for the HIPAA pre-existing condition clause. Most private insurance plans do not qualify and they can either not cover pre-existing conditions ever or just not bother offering you insurance.

Your E-3 employer is not offering any of their group medical insurance to you?
That is the first place to start, generally.

Good call meauxna and Rete! I was just assuming they were coming here and having to get their own but yes of course if the Employer offers it by all means that would be the way to go at least to start.

What they offer basically is a percentage of the whole fee of a decent medical service - it's my choice to go or not to go for it

But is it a group plan that they sponsor or are you on your own in finding a plan? The situations are very, very different and if you have to find your own you are at a major disadvantage in terms of price and eligibility.

hmmm, that's interesting.
Unfortunately, it's more expensive to buy as an individual than part of a group.

In addition to the link already posted, try this one: http://www.ehealthinsurance.com/

If you choose a 'high deductible' plan, in addition to paying the premium, you pay the first X$ of treatment (IE, a plan with a $5000 deductible means that you pay for your first $5K of treatment, then the insurance kicks in). Also watch for things like 80/20 in the descriptions, which mean the ins. co will pay only 80% and you'll get the 20.

It's one of the hardest things to shop for IMO. Good luck!
