Default Need someone who can do Brit & US accent

I’m studying Asian students’ perceptions and prejudices towards British & American accents at Brighton University and I’m looking for someone who can speak both British and American accents authentically.

Maybe you have lived or spent lots of time in, or have links to both countries and so can pull off both accents well (like Dr. House ). For example - I’m English, but my mother is Scottish, and I’ve spent lots of time there, so I can do both accents well.

I need male or female speakers, over 18 years old. All you need to do is to record your voice reading a couple of paragraphs in each accent.

Please let me know if you can do this. If I can use your accents for my dissertation, then I can compensate you for your time and ask you some questions about your background.

So, can anybody help me with this?

Or maybe you know someone else who can?

Thanks!

Which specific British and American accents? As you know, someone born in London has a different accent than someone from Liverpool, which is different again than someone from Blackpool. Americans from New York speak with a different accent than someone from Kentucky, who speak differently than someone from El Paso, who is different than someone from Los Angeles.

So... which?

I think she acknowledged multiple accents. My dual-national brother-in-law has resumed stateside residence. During his residence in Cornwall, there was often the problem that the Cornish and Scotts could not understand each other -- but both understood his "Joisy" accent perfectly and he was multilinqual in various British dialects. He was often called in to "translate." He also alternated with a co-employee who spoke RP on narrating the internet videos.

You're right. I wasn't specific because I know that that would limit my chances of finding someone.

Specifically, I'd prefer General American (Midwest) and received pronunciation (BBC English) accents.

I know finding such a speaker would be difficult, so I'm really looking for people with accents that would be considered 'neutral' - such as those often used by newsreaders.

Generally however, if the nationality of the accent can be correctly identified by native speakers of both countries, then it would be suitable.

Is there a reason that you need the same person to be able to speak in both accents? What difference would it make if the samplings are recorded audio, as opposed to audio/video?

I've often been told that I have a "generic" American accent, but I can't do a British accent (of any variety) to save my life. And in the almost 10 years I've known Mark, he's never tried to speak in an American accent -- not even to humor me!

Is it only me who can't understand this request?

If the voices are to be recorded - just record a natural born Englishman/woman and the same with an American.
