Is this for a specific job/location, or some sort of contract agency?

Try to get some sort of feel for the money - if it isn't $60k in a low cost location, or $100k in a high cost location, then the situation likely won't be viable for a family of five.

It looks like it may be this, which is more like a training program than regular employment.

That is solid advice If it is the training opportunity above its unlikely to be viable with a family of five.

Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news.

This would smack of desperation for someone who supposedly has many years of experience in the working world -- this is for kids with one year of work under their belts. And we all know what Ian would say about decisions born out of desperation . . .

Exactly the reason why people should research the cost of living before being dazzled by wage figures. I do wish people would stop converting that into GBP and thinking it's a good wage because it's more than they are getting in Scotland or some other lower cost area of the U.K.

This type of money is what the 19-year-olds living in mama's basement earn where my husband works. It just about covers the cost of running their car, a bit of rent for mama, and some pocket money for the weekends. For a family of five it is actually below the poverty level (which is ridiculously low in the USA). There's no way I'd move my family across the world to live in poverty.

I am not even sure about that - across much of the US every year the weather tries to kill you in one of several ways - floods, hurricanes and tornadoes, or cooking you or freezing you to death. The weather in the UK is quite benign in comparison.

Hence why I chose the PNW to live. It's just taxes and maybe smoke that kill you here.

That sounds more like it, he has a job offer, he has been offered a salary but the biggie still remains, what Visa would his potential Employer be applying for?
