My mother and I say "sc-own", my father says "sc-on". We're all from pretty much the same place.

My family (parents and sister) and I all say "sc-on", and are more or less from your neck of the woods. .... Your mother must be posh if she says "sc-own".

That's right, get me even more depressed. I'm going back to the US next Wednesday. My fridge here in England is a bit overloaded with clotted cream and crème fraîche ... I don't bother making my own scones, the Tesco Finest ones are pretty fine.

No clotted cream, and all the cream widely availability is UHT, which not only gives it a slightly odd flavour, it also makes it impossible to make your own clotted cream. Plus many restaurant desserts are made with some weird cream substitute, and if you do find a restaurant that uses real cream, they have sweetened it.
I have heard that some farm shops sell non-UHT cream, but I haven't found one locally yet.

Is it only the Brits that do real, proper cream?? In France, the thick cream is only 32% max fat so it only whips up if really cold and in restaurants they often add gelatine and sugar. Creme fraiche is ok with a dark choc pudding but not much else sweet. Here, well that heavy cream is just not the same as double cream.
