The clue should be in the name "BritishExpats," by definition there has to be a period and certain amount of derogation, doom....gloom with a little negativity thrown in

Uber and Lyft work. Need a smart phone for the apps. Also, transit via Metro ain't as bad as reputation would have it.

Never used AirBnB.

On the other hand, this could be genuine desperation leading to desperate calls for help. In which case the person can go to social services, the police or a church for help. The internet is not the right place for it.
