Need help!
Hi Folks,
here's the problem. I applied for a work permit as soon as I arrived in the US- before we got married. It arrived late and backdated, but will expire on Nov. 5th, the same date as my I-94 card. So I applied for a change of status and a new work permit, in the hope that the new one would overlap the old one and I could keep working. The INS (Sorry, BCIS) rejected our initial application because we included the $50 fingerprinting fee, which the told me to include. Their mistake, and now we're set back 4 weeks. Last week they rejected the application again- yes, you guessed it, their mistake again- they told me to include an affidavit of support- which I did- the one from my K-1 application, which was the wrong one. So now it's almost time for my permit to expire, processing time has gone up, and I'm stuck because I just got a really well-paid job with the state. I mailed the application back to them yesterday, but there is no way I'll get my card in time now. Last time I got a card, it was backdated- and the next one could be, but what do I do? I don't want to quit my job, but I don't want to be deported either! Am I still 'in status'? What should I do? Any ideas/advice?
Frustratedly yours,
Paul.
