Well I have always disliked England and both my parents felt the same way and wanted to leave the country (a dream I share) but sadly they both died in their early 50s without managing it. I however can afford to as my companies are now self sufficient and can run without me. I have always struggled with foreign languages so would like to move to an English country. As I don't really have to work (but would like to) I have the time and money to travel and America is almost like its own little planet.it has all climates and so much to see and do so I'd really like to move there and put down some roots but be able to travel as and when.

Also I love to eat and would love to do some of the challenges from the tv show man vs food lol

You can do that on some VWP visits. :)

With all due respect, most of that is "reasons to leave the UK" not "reasons why USA". Do remember that living in the US is not like visiting on holiday.

Languages is a bit of a red herring to living and you'll find the US is probably a bigger culture shock than if you moved to a country with a different language. Plus you can get by with English just fine in many EU countries, Scandinavian countries for a start, then the Netherlands, Belgium would be pretty doable etc.

Have you considered South Africa? I don't know what their visa requirements might be, but probably a lot lower capital at a guess.

For what you want to do, you're better off just having a few holidays in the US, on the VWP if you don't need to work and just want to explore the country.

Um. Jeopardy question:

'What statement will immediately piss off every American in your vicinity?'

I'm sure there are many valid points to be argued about true Americans and historical immigration, but that's beside the point. Although plenty of people strongly identify with their original cultural heritages (especially on St Patrick's Day), they consider themselves true Americans. They consider the USA to be a nation of true Americans. Trust me; I was here on July 4th. And, as everyone else has mentioned, you basically need specialist skills, a family member who's a USC, or Scrooge McDuckish assets to get in.*

*(I don't know much about investment visas. I just qualify anything with six digits or more as Scrooge McDuckish.)

I know I'm being pedantic, but, to me, the whole 'America is a nation of immigrants' thing smacks of an outdated and unrealistic view of US immigration. This view gets people disappointed and, occasionally, ripped off. I blame the Statue of Liberty.

Well, there's California. But cleaning and maintenance is cheap here. And, from what I see, the language of that industry is Spanish.

Europe! So many places you could legally and relatively easily move to. So many different cultures and climates. No Republicans.

Although I'm all for moving country (obviously), it does make me sad/skeptical to see someone who apparently dislikes England so much and identifies one country only as the desired destination. America is sometimes awesome, sometimes awful, and the grass isn't unequivocally greener. If you want to leave England, there are plenty of other options.

Re: Need ALOT of advice!!

I have been all over Europe and had some great holidays but never found a place I could see myself living. I have also been to the USA on several occasions and found it to have all the luxuries I can get at home which is why I have chosen to pursue migration there. It's not just based on seeing a few tv shows or movies.

The reason I was asking about climates etc... Is because I have obviously not seen the whole country and have not stayed all year so have no idea of an all year round temperature in any of the few places I've been.

As for the country being made up of immigrants that's not a dig at the American people.

The uk has be known to kill many many people in the name of the crown in its history and the uk was also made up largely of immigrants but the USA isn't a very old country so I'm shocked it's got as closed off as it is so fast.

I do however understand why the USA can't just open it's doors and take all comers, the uk immigration system is a mess and we let too many people in.

But in my case I can prove I have a non working income from the uk, have 4 successful businesses in the uk and would be happy to even sign stating I will never claim benefits.

People like me in the USA can only be good for the USA. And if I was to fail they could kick me out.

About the US being closed off so fast. 300+ million people will do that.

Trust me, the US does NOT have all the luxuries you can get at home. Free healthcare for starters - a huge starter at that. Think about being a spotty 18 year old oik trying to get a credit card - you'll be the equivalent of that oik trying to get a credit card here. Like a good Indian curry? Nope!

You have to balance it. You're not going to get comfortable 28C heat year round in a single place. In the northeast it might vary from -5 to 35 over the course of a year, with 6' of snow in winter and 100% humidity in summer. In the southwest the range might be 10 to 40 but after experiencing 42 degree heat a couple of days ago, it's distinctly unpleasant, especially when the AC can't cope. The winters might be mild here but the winds every few weeks can make it distinctly unpleasant. Etc etc for each region.

No need to. You're not entitled to anything for a good while after arriving, as far as I know.

The point is you have to prove it, by applying for the appropriate visa. If you were to fail then you would most likely have to leave the country anyway, depending on what visa you had. Trouble is, many don't - and that's why the US rightfully tries to stop people getting in, rather than the much harder task of trying to get them out afterwards.

I don't know why people keep going on about the NHL and healthcare. The NHL is not a luxury to me and it's not free either. This is rip off Britain and our tax including vat pays for it. It's only a luxury for the poor and the lazy.

I have had private healthcare for 4years so am used to having to pay through the nose. I understand the cost will be even higher in the states but a lot of things are cheaper as well.

The luxuries I'm on about are more material things. For example we pay £6 per box of lucky charms here coz you can't buy it in shops only online and the mrs is addicted to it.

I understand there are a lot of people there who shouldn't be and at the moment that looks to be the easiest way in. All I'm saying is things could be done more efficiently. As it could be anywhere.

We are currently in talks with a USA migration solicitor who thinks I may be able to get in but have only had one email so far and done meet with him for 2 weeks.

I'm not one of these the grass is greener sort of people I know that the USA has Alot of pros and cons.

I just want to be part of it and live in a country I like with people I like. That is England and from past experience that is the USA.

If I were dying in a shop doorway having lost my job (and therefore my healthcare) followed by my home due to cancer, I think I'd still thank my lucky stars that breakfast cereal was so plentiful and cheap.

Don't listen to the rest of the Moaning Minnies on here - they don't know which side their bread's buttered on.

So it's not just me. Thank god for that. I think a lot of people who have migrated to the USA should move back home. They all seem so negative about the prospect of someone like me moving to the states and having a nice quiet life. Or maybe they hate america with its private healthcare and are trying to protect me lol.

The UK immigration is a mess for a different reason to what you think. Also, those who are legally entering the country aren't the problem.

The NHS, well, if you had to pay a grand or more a month for insurance and cover wasn't great, you'd change your tune. The NHS is a great service that is unappreciated but when you don't have it, you realise what you miss. Because of it, you get cheap BUPA or other private coverage and sure it isn't free, it comes from general taxation, but what do you think your taxes go towards in the US? All the same stuff, but you just won't have access to healthcare.

Seriously, no one is saying not to do it, but you need to open your eyes to reality of life here, it isn't a holiday. It isn't any cheaper living here. The same shit that annoys you about the UK will be the same shit over here. You've not really said what it is about the US that would make things better for you that you couldn't get more easily and certainly for less risk else where and most of your reasons step from wanting to get out of the UK.

If you're speaking to a US immigration lawyer, one specialised in the investor treaty, you'd want a couple of opinions, because it's relatively easy getting the visa if you've got the cash, it's the ability to renew and then stay afterwards that is often the nightmare.
