Default Nashville, TN

OH is under consideration for a job in Nashville. I've looked at numerous websites about Nashville, but wondered if any of you who live there/have lived there can give me any first-hand experience of what it's like -- what did you like/dislike about it? Any suggestions as to the best areas around Nashville to live? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Weather here is good, you get 4 proper seasons with a pretty hot summer and mild winter

Thriving economy

In terms of areas to live, it depends on your budget and what you like, cheap and in the sticks or more expensive and urban

I prefer the latter.

I'm currently sitting in my home office looking out the window at a bright blue clear sky

The area is staunchly democrat unlike a lot of the places in the south and is very liberal in an american context

Lots of stuff to do. We have a decent NFL team, a excellent NHL team, lots of concerts, good restaurants and bars

no state income tax and lowish property taxes

Everything that BritGuy said, plus its moniker is true - something like "the big city with a small town feel". Very friendly (and not in the "false friendly" the south has a reputation for), lots of arty (and obviously music-y) stuff going on, decent climate, good outdoorsy stuff within an hour or two's drive (east TN).

I'd go back there in a heartbeat, given the chance.

Thanks for your input, BritGuyTN and Dunroving. To be honest, I'm finding it hard to contemplate another move, but it sounds like Nashville is as good a place as any

We live in Nashville, and we really like it a lot. It does have many big city perks, but a very small town feel to it. If you have children, you'll want to consider carefully the area you live in due to the schools. Some Nashville Metro schools are great, others are in need of improvements. We live in the southeast part of Davidson County and like it. If you go to www.realtracs.com , you can get an idea of the price of houses in different areas of Nashville (Davidson County) and surrounding counties. If you like music, this is the city for you! There are events going on all the time and many are free.
We moved to Nashville 3 years ago--against my will--and I have to admit I would find it hard to leave now. It has such a good mix of things and a nice "feel" to it. Good luck with your decision! Feel free to ask if you have more specific questions.

I never did understand the hordes of tourists who end up in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg--and like it! I never did like going. However, as you mentioned, the surrounding area is lovely. We've stayed in cabins in the mountains a few times and really enjoyed it. Plenty of camping places in middle and east Tennessee, in case the OP is interested in that sort of thing. (on a side note--my husband and I got married in Pigeon Forge--because it was simple there. While driving through several years later, we had many laughs over the fact that our cute little wedding chapel had been turned into a tattoo parlor)
