Name Changes
Hi everyone
I'm just thinking this through and thought some of you might have some insight. My wedding is getting close and my fiancee and I, after a lot of option weighing, are currently thinking that we'll both change our names to a hybrid of our respective surnames. I won't go into our thinking, but it's the way we want to do it. I'm just wondering how this will work and if it will confuse the powers that be? I'm not even sure of the technicalities involved if we took the "traditional" route and just changed her name to be honest, so any experiences/advice would be appreciated.

Oh well, you're unemployed, you've got plenty of time to search it.

I can't find anything with the search function. I've gone a few pages back on all the sub-forums and found a few relevant tit-bits. I've figured out it's state specific so you guys probably can't help me much unless you happen to know about Vermont law.

I don't think the search function on the site is working right. I just tried searching for your existing post here, using the words "name changes" and it said no matches found. That can't be right.

Yeah, it works for some things but not others as far as I could tell. I couldn't find anything to do with names at all using the search function. :-/

Well I tried
It's so frustrating when you remember seeing a thread, but can't pin it down.

Thanks for the threads, very useful
From my general googling about it seems that here in Vermont either/both of us can change our name when we get married and this will be indicated on the marriage certificate. I'll let everyone know what the Town Hall officials do or don't let us do

He was a character. We had a lot of 'characters' back then! You kids these days, you're too normal!
On re-read, that must have been the thread I was thinking of too.

I was just looking through those old threads from usenet days and saw him say 'your lawyer is an idiot' and thought.. 'nah, it couldn't be!'
