I'm sure this is a rather common question, but since I haven't gone through this
before, I need to ask it. I'm Canadian, and just married my husband last Friday (a
warm Las Vegas desert ceremony!). All my Canadian ID obviously has my maiden name on
it, and I would like to change my name to his, moving my current last name into the
middle. I never had a K1, and so I am just applying "out of the blue" so to speak (I
haven't started filing the papers yet). Would I have to change all my Canadian ID
before I could start applying? Would it be easier to apply with my maiden name, and
the change to his name afterward? I'm not even sure how I would go about changing my
name here.....I guess I would just do it through Canada vital statistics. Any help
would be most appreciated. Faye

You will need to fill out your INS forms with your new married name. Your marriage
license will be proof of your name change to the INS. You and your husband will need
to file an I-130 and the I-485 package at your local INS office. Should you wish to
work, you will also file an I-765 (EAD card)and if you wish to travel, even back to
Canada, you will need to file the I-131 (Advance Parole). Once you receive your EAD,
you can get a Social Security Card. With these two things, and your marriage license,
you can change your name on your bank accounts, drivers license, etc. See all the
details for what to file and other things you will need at Doc Steen's site
http://www.mindspring.com/~docsteen/...o/visainfo.htm accept the disclaimer and
go to the section called Tourist Adjustment Another good site is the I-130
