N-400 Interview and Certified Court Record
Citizenship interview is set for next month and I can only see one potential
snag.Over 15 years ago, I was convicted by a London court on 2 counts of petty theft. This came up during my interview for permanent residence at the US embassy in London and I produced 2 certified copies of the court disposition (Fined 50 Pounds). No issue they said, - the UK equivalent of a lower class misdemeanor - and my green card was approved. Of course I included this in my N-400 application but I now only have photocopies of the 'certified' disposition. The originals were kept by the Embassy in my Visa file. Is it possible the INS officer will deny my application on the grounds that my court documents are only copies? Will they ask that I return to London to request another certified copy or will they have the originals on file? My guess is that they were included in my visa package that was handed in to the INS when arriving in the states. |
