OK Girl my heart goes out to you my Dad died last month and I had the same call GET HOME.
You need to ask the airline for a compassionate flight I flew out with KLM and back with Northwest but they are associated with each other they are going to ask you, or they did me the name of your parent that is in hospital and where they are?
Just get on the 1st flight you can, I am so pleased I got there in time he died the next morning that I arrived.
Pay for it on the C/C........ 2 ideas if you have 1 call the CC company and get them to up your limit or if not then if you work ask the company that you work for to advance your pay check.

Oh I feel for you be brave and hang in there just get home.

Lara, I'm sorry to hear your news. Perhaps your family in England can help with the airfare and you can repay them later. That is if you can't get a compassion discount from the airline. I hope you make it home in time to say your goodbyes to your mother. May her and your family be watched over during this emotional time in your lives.

Re: My mother is dying and I need URGENT advice

You may also want to check or post at the message boards at http://www.flyertalk.com, which is the message board of most airline frequent flier programs. There are plenty of frequent fliers and airline personnel who hang around there and know all the ins and outs of airlines. Sat / Mon / Tue / Wed flights are generally less full than those on the weekend, and I think morning flights (if you can find one) are less full than evening flights.

Each airline has their own policy on these sorts of fares. You should check the last minute sites to see if there are any tickets available, and even consider priceline.com to name a cheap fare to get home.

Sometimes the airlines will require you to produce paperwork from the hospital, etc. It may sound a bit harsh, but the airlines have been burned by fakes before so you should be ready to offer this information when requested. Sometimes they will book you and charge you full fare, but upon producing the info your next fare is at a compassion price.

If funds are low, you may want to examine your credit cards and contact the issuer and ask if they can make an emergency credit limit increase. Won't hurt to ask.

I hope it works out.

Hi, I'm really sorry to hear about your mum, I have just done a quick google for compassionate flights - Air Canada offers this as does some other airlines - I really hope you get home in time - sending you some karma for the difficult time you have ahead.

By the way, and I hope this isn't prying too much, but could you let us know which airports you are looking to head through? You see, sometimes last minute online fares are much cheaper than the compassion fares (source: http://www.smartertravel.com/travel-....html?id=14172) and I think there are more than a few people here who would be willing to help you look up a few fares online.
