Question Music For A Road Trip

Hurray, it's Summertime!

In August we are going away to spend a week in Bordeaux, SW France (close to the border of Spain). However, it's going to be a v-e-r-y long drive from central Switzerland. Our experience of listening to Swiss and French radio stations isn't exactly stellar.

OTOH my spouse and I think we each have an appalling taste in music - we were driving back from a trip a few weeks ago and he was playing Van der Graaf Generator and Leonard Cohen ffs on his iPod via the car's loudspeakers... I want to get my own back he he

Anyway....I need some inspiration for some cheesy, upbeat music to listen and sing to whilst I'm driving If I listen to ballads or something with a slow beat I'm likely to doze off...so I'd love some suggestions to add to my playlist

Here's what I've got so far (and a couple of videos too to start off with):

(It's v. long but if you can, do watch till the end, it's hilarious - from Pink Pop festival in Holland, 2004) )

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (Will Smith) - 'Summertime'

Daft Punk - "Get Lucky"

Modjo - "Lady"

Dodgy - "Good Enough"

Stardust - "Music Sounds Better With You"

Amy Winehouse - "Valerie"

Tom Odell - 'Another Love' (a bit slower but good to sing along with )

More please!

Daft Punk??? My 13-year-old son listens to that.

Here's one of his other favourites for you then... (he only knows the cleaned up version they play on the radio - I think)

Anything by Black Sabbath played loud. If that doesn't wake you up, nothing will, and you won't be able to hear DH's whining.

Sixties soul is the only music for a road trip! One of those Stax Volt, Motown, or Atlantic compilations, with lots of Wilson Pickett, Otis, Aretha, and Smokey. Makes me want to get out and dance at every traffic light!

I'd dispense with the music and have a farting contest. First one to open a window loses.

So you're about to embark on a relatively long road trip holiday, and you're looking for music to aggravate your husband? ..... Well, I'm glad I'm not part of your family!

My latest fave is Andrea Bocelli, I love to sing along to his music when I travel although he mostly sings in Italian a language completely unknown to me ... but hey who cares right .. DH says hes impressed by my pronounciation even if I don't have a clue what I'm singing about.
