multi-region video and dvd players
Hi to all.
We are hoping to have our interview and medical dates soon. Our attorney did originally say we would be out for last Xmas - but hey, she had 'too many deadlines to meet!' . So here I am biding my time with our house sold and wondering what to do with most of our possessions.
I know taking a t.v. out to the US to watch programmes would be a waste of time but what about our multi- regional video and dvd players and Playstation? Would we be able to use them on our t.v.. Or should we just sell them here and buy new in Florida, where we hope to settle?
Any advice would be great! Thanks.

sell and buy new... a multi-region dvd player in walmart will run you around $40, a playstation around $100, a small tv around $90

Really? Which brand of DVD player did you find in walmart? We went there just before Christmas and asked about multi region, they claimed they didn't have any. So we are now without - our multi-region one that we paid $150 for (Phillips) just gave up the ghost.

Have a car boot/ebay and get rid, you'll only buy new once you're here anyway.

Before you buy. Check here...
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks
Most DVD players can be hacked very easily with a few "hidden" menu commands.
Your UK DVD player will likely output PAL and not NTSC, regardless of what "region" it plays or supports.
Target and Costco's sell hackable players for under 20 quid (at 1.96 exchnage rate ).

www.vcdhelp.com is the site to see, it's been discussed plenty....there's a colby player for $30 and a Philips that can be hacked for $40 that'll play mpeg 4, so your avi files etc.

Re: multi-region video and dvd players
Actually I would say bring your stuff over
1) I couldn't get much for my 2nd hand stuff in the UK.
2) Keep the TV to play your playstation and for any viedos your family may send over taken of your nephews etc.
Although the playstation itself isn't that expensive if you have a full library of games that really adds up!!
Although you have to buy a new TV and prob dvd player you'd have to buy that anyway.

Crazy to spend more than you have to.

I prefer the Philips DVP642 or DVP3040. They're only slightly more expensive, and actually look OK in the living room.

It's not in our living room, we got it to watch family videos that were transferred to dvd and sent to us from the UK so didn't want to cough up a lot of money. It's actually very small and slim and not at all ugly!
