Moving to USA with an IVA

There is a possibility of a job in California, wondered if an IVA will stop me getting a visa?

May stop you getting the job if they decide to credit check you in the UK, but I don't see it having an impact on the actual visa application.

I had to google IVA and i guess it means you have financial difficulties. Your US sponsor might not be impressed, but the US government likely won't bat an eyelid. Unless Moral Turpitude is involved!

What about getting loans, mortgage in the US? Do you have to declare bankruptcy when asked regarding past credit history....?

An IVA is not bankruptcy under UK law. It's a step down, but works functionally like a Chapter 13 I believe.

Re: Moving to USA with an IVA

An IVA is merely a formal settlement and payment agreement covered by UK law that enables people in debt to come to an agreement with creditors enabling everyone to get something rather than an individual going down the Bankruptcy route. It won't appear on any US credit checks - although any underwriting that you need in the first couple of years would probably require information about it. As an example, I imagine it would impact any mortgage application within the first 2 years at least - they wouldn't know about it from the credit file, but they'd ask for UK information to support the underwriting.
