Moving to the USA

Hi, myself and husband and 2 year old daughter are british citizens. My husband is about to be made redundant although we don't know when exactly when this will happen. We are interested in making a move to the US and are after some advice on the best way to go about doing this. My husband has been applying for US jobs via monstor.com however we are unclear as to whether this is the best way to do it. Should we be trying to find out where in terms of location his job skills are desired and then apply for a HB1 visa, or can he apply for jobs first.

Advice would be most welcome.

If he wants to go for an H1B, he needs to find an employer willing to sponsor him first. The employer is the one who begins the process by submitting a petition. If approved, then your husband can apply for the visa.

You would get an H4 visa, which means you would not be able to work.

What happened to your Canada plans? Generally speaking, the US is much harder than Canada to get in to btw.

What does your husband do?

We are keeping our options open, we have friends who are moving out to Canada on the 15th September so that is still an option for us, we would like to hear about their experience and go out for a visit as we have never been!. To be honest we will go where the work is. Mike is a Senior Records Manager (information & knowledge management) kind of IT based...

Networking is the best bet, who does he know that can put in a good word for him, what skills does he have that are in short supply.
