Question moving to the us

hi all,

first post on this site, and i would like to ask for some advice.
I'm due to retire in ten years time, and wish to move to florida, I'm married to a us citizen and have been for 20 years.
I recently bought some land near tampa and want to build a house on it. can I apply for dual nationality, or a certain visa now to ensure a smooth move later ?
many thanks ashes.

If your spouse is a permanent resident of your country, your best bet would be to file an I-130 and apply for a spousal immigrant visa through the US Consulate in the country where you live. This is commonly referred to as a DCF.

If you search this site for DCF you will find a great deal of information regardin the topic also This is a good place to start.

Are you saying that you wish to move to the US in 10 years? Or, that you are moving to Florida and will retire 10 years after you move? Big difference.

Yes, if you are married to a US citizen and have been a permanent resident of the US for 3 years then you can apply for US citizenship.

Sounds like you've got a few years of work ahead of you though before you are even eligible for US citizenship.

Right, but no point in starting anything if you don't plan on moving for 10 years.

I guess the relevant question is whether you have a marijuana conviction...

Good luck.

Or an FBI file. Wasn't that John Lennon's problem?
