Moving from UK to US: Investment Advice
Hi all,
I am looking to move to NY. I am being transferred on an L visa for work.
I had been thinking of investing in a UK shares ISA, but am now reconsidering.
I am concerned that the tax benefits of a UK ISA will be wiped out, as the IRS will want me to pay tax on my ISA gains. I am relatively young, so do not have any investments yet, and am planning on being in NY for 1-2 years, but potentially permanently.
Should I invest directly in the US ?
Is this then difficult to move back to the UK if I return ?
Does anyone know of a US/UK tax specialists in NY who could assist with my investments too ?
Should I avoid any investments right now and just put money into a savings account ?
Any pointers would be great.
Thanks

Re: Moving from UK to US: Investment Advice
I'd wait till you get to NY and see how it goes first before thinking about where to invest.
Will you be paying into a 401K while in the US
Also a good idea to continue to pay your UK NI contributions, my understanding is they are paid by your UK employer the first year you are in the US then its up to you to set up the voluntary contributions. You can pay class 2 while overseas which is a bargain
