Moving to the U.S (what else!)

Hi,
just stumbled across this forum,interesting to read, and I thought I could ask a question or two myself.
I am a UK national who, having visited the U.S several times loved it so much I would like to live and work there.I am educated to Masters Degree level,have ten years work history in tourism management, administration work, and working for the Government.
To work in the U.S must I first have a job offer from a U.S employer?
If so, how can I do this from the u.k?
Is it possible to visit with a view to finding a job?
if anyone knows of any web sites that can help, or could help me them selves, it would be much appreciated.
