Moving to Texas

Hi all

I am potentially moving with my company (Aker) to Houston on an L1 and am looking for some tips and advice on where best to live, in relation to commute, good schools for kids etc.

Thanks in advance.

:welcome:
Schools are generally better outside Houston ISD, but obviously there are some exceptions. The main thing with Houston is to consider your commute. Mr Weeze commutes Katy to Galleria. That's 35-45 mins depending on traffic. How long do you want your commute to be? It's a good idea to have a choice of roads too. So, to get home we could use I10, Westheimer or even if desperate, the Tollway.
Also, what's your budget like? Renting in Houston is very expensive. Check out HAR.com.
I think your work is Energy Corridor, is that right? If so, you could pick Energy Corridor, Lakes on Eldridge, Katy, Memorial. It all comes down to how much you want to pay and your commute.

Welcome to BE and good luck :)

Might want to do a search on BE though, as this subject about Houston is nearly a weekly thing, so plenty of decent advice already to get you going :)

As it has been said it very much depends exactly where you will be working. Houston traffic is a nightmare, so you want to look at commute times and then schools to narrow down your area.

For example my hubby works at Westchase but when we first moved (L1/L2) was spending a lot of time over on the East at Greens Port setting up their new workshop so we chose to live in Pearland which is South of Houston and about half way between the two. He has a 30 - 40 min commute each day depending on traffic.

Use the search function for Houston, lots of recent information on here. Also check out http://www.city-data.com/forum/houston/ for Houston info. As Weeze said HAR.com is the place to look for houses.

Good luck.
