Moving to Orlando FL Help!
Hi Everyone
We are a couple in our early 30's moving to FL for my work. My partner wont be able to work I dont think and we need to find somewhere to live! We need to be within 30mins of Haines city and are looking at celebration and davenport. Any advice apreciated?! Also any guidance in what our monthly bill might be would also be greatful. Thanks for your help! Rich |
Re: Moving to Orlando FL Help!
So you're not sure if your partner can work or not? What visa do you have? Are you married?

Rene We are about to go through the visa application process. We are not married. We were wondering which are the best areas to live where we can start out new life that is commutable to haines city and what are all the things we'll have to pay monthly. Thanks for the reply. Rich |

Re: Moving to Orlando FL Help!
Thanks for the advice on that. It'll be september so best get married!
|
Re: Moving to Orlando FL Help!
"The visa application" is not enough information. Which visa, exactly? Either way, you must be married for your partner to get a dependent visa. Some allow work, some don't, so we can't help you with that until we know which visa you're getting.

Are you being transferred by your current company in the UK? That will give some idea of what your visa might be.

Re: Moving to Orlando FL Help!
Hi I am wondering why you would want to move nearer the tourist traps of Davenport and Celebration which are more than likely going to be more expensive to buy and rent in than south of Haines City?
If you want to get a view on property prices and areas, get Trulia. It has the crime databases for an area, the school score etc and average house rentals and prices. |

Thanks for your help! Rich I live in Davenport. Celebration will cost you significantly more and would be a longer commute. Another area you could look at if Haines City is your work area is Lake Alfred or Winter Haven. In Davenport, rent will run you $1200 to $1500 for a 3 or 4 bed house. We pay $1400 for a 5 bed with a pool. Electricity will cost you $250-300 a month in the summer and $150-200 in the winter months. Water in Polk County will run you $100ish a month, Cable, Phone & Internet around $130 a month. You will be required to pay a deposit on ALL of your utilities. These range from $300 to around $1000. Hope that helps and if you have any more specific questions, feel free to PM me. |

Sorry about that. Since your initial post sounded like you weren't sure about the work eligibility, I thought I would try to clear that up for you.

Re: Moving to Orlando FL Help!
I am intrigued about this scenario. From where I sit , Haines city is in the back of beyond, in the middle of nowhere. Now they are hiring international hotshots with unspecified visa eligibility.

Re: Moving to Orlando FL Help!
I'm getting a whiff of bullshit. There is zero industry in Haines City apart from orange picking and Heart of Florida hospital.
Early 30's MBA, who can't string a sentence together and relies on this website to figure out local cost of living for a professional intra-company transfer. I'd have thought the kids had gone back to school by now...... |

If you don't think it will be an issue, as opposed to knowing it won't be, then I'd say there's an above average chance there will be an issue. |

Thanks all. Without a visa secured, it's irrelevant asking about where to live because you won't be able to live here at all. |

Thanks all. If your "partner" won't be working you will likely need to be in/near businesses and facilities to enable her to amuse herself and socialize. If you're both working then somewhere convenient to your places of work would be better suited to your needs. ..... At the moment we know very little about you and we aren't going to waste our time if you can't give us just a little more info about yourselves. |
Re: Moving to Orlando FL Help!
-Why would anyone make this up?! What a waste of time that would be!
-This is of course not my only source of information as to the best area to live! - There is no need for abuse 'cant string a sentance together' - I do not yet know what visa it will be. The process begins in february - point taken that until you have a visa you cannot plan to move. - it will be around September when we move - assuming there visa is ok as expected - if you believe it's false dont follow or comment - happy to share the story of why a haines city base another time - thank you for those that have been helpful. I have actually been suprised how much response there has been and the willingness of people to understand. All the best - To confirm - i understand the points made re the visa however i am absolutley not a liar. |
Re: Moving to Orlando FL Help!
Thanks Pulaski. She will need a safe environment so are looking at celebration as possibly being that place, albeit more expensive than places such as davenport and kissimmee

Re: Moving to Orlando FL Help!
Also, another thing I've noticed is that you refer to your 'partner'. Are you married? If you aren't, then she will need her own visa in order to come with you, as is my understanding.

Is this via your employer? They should be able to tell you which one they are pursuing if it is.

I honestly dont know re her. The research we've done so far suggests she can come but not work. We'll know more next month. In the meantime knowing where the safe and comfortable areas to live are is helping inform how much money we'll need (maybe to save for a house) etc etc and where to look for houses when we visit following the visa process. I know it may seem a little premature but you cant do enoguh research so we may as well start now so we are ready by September
