Moving from Oklahoma to LA - advice please on places to live
Hi everyone,
I have just obtained a position in LA in carson and need some advice about the places to live - i expect to take a 30 to 40 minute commute to work as Santa Monica is probably too expensive. I am looking for a two bedroomed apartment. Need some ideas of places to live within 40 mins driving of Carson that are reasonable if this is possible.
thank you
Julia
Thank goodness i can leave the bible belt of the midwest - three years here is more than enough - LA here i come!!!!

If you can get that in LA...that's well cheap....you'd be laughed out the park in Boston at least.

So..... it's certainly doable. However, a lot of the areas in your vicinity that are affordable are somewhat, shall we say, interesting.
Meanwhile, looking at all of central LA:

Notice that Santa Monica is not listed. You aren't going to get a 2br flat in Santa Monica for that money in a hurry.

Good luck with the move Julia. I can't suggest areas around where you are looking as we are in the 'burbs of Woodland Hills.
I just wanted to say that I think you are better off looking on your own on Craigslist than hooking up with an agent. They are rubbish around LA and show you any garbage they have, totally ignoring your requests as to what the house should/shouldn't have.
When you meet an agent at the house for a viewing they will try and drag you along to 5 other houses in the area, just ask them to give you the details instead of going with them at that precise time.
To give you a little bit of hope, when we were looking (totally different spec to you) I never thought I would find something I wanted in our price range. We ended up with a fantastic rental for the price we wanted, so stick it out there are some gems out here.
