I'd advise searching Facebook for groups. Googling it seems like a small town. Does look to be an hour or so outside of Atlanta so maybe some cool museum trips on weekends.

It's a suburb and far from a small town. It's in Gwinnett county and traffic can be a nightmare as there are a lot of commuters and no Marta subway (because the county blocked it).

There's plenty to do though, especially if you're prepared to spend a little time in the car or, on occasion, on a bus.

In Atlanta itself, there's plenty to do including Museums and, of course, the world's largest Aquarium. You can head over to World of Coke and other attractions.

Six Flags over Georgia is the nearest theme park, which is popular and there's plenty more.

I live about an hour further out, so we rarely come down to Atlanta unless it's for a ball game (Football (NFL, College and even Soccer) at Mercedes Benz Stadium, baseball at Suntrust Park or one of the many locations for concerts. The Fox Theater is a must for a traveling Broadway show and the theater itself is historical and fascinating.

Hope that gives you an idea. I could probably go on, but I'd end up sounding too much like a tour guide!

I live in Midtown Atlanta, but work in Winder, north of you, I recommend the Atlanta History Museum, the exhibits change often,

Roswell, Marietta and Kenneshaw are nice towns worth a visit, and there's a smallish Brit shop in Marietta.

As Guindalf says there is plenty to do just a drive away, National Parks are a plenty if you want to explore further, the Carolinas, Florida are 4/6 hours away.

There's a Brit shop in Norcross too. Very friendly and helpful. Well worth the visit!

My friend's daughter graduated from Kennesaw State (which, BTW, is the only city I know where it is actually compulsory for homeowners to own a gun! I don't know how strictly it's enforced, but I do know that it has the lowest instances of break-ins in the region!!).

Just popping in to say greetings from about an hour up I-85 in Banks County. Personally I avoid Atlanta like the CDC has released some sort of deadly plague.

I recently moved to Alpharetta, a 20 mins drive away from Lawrenceville.

Sugarloaf Mills is the biggest outlet in Georgia, which is in Lawrenceville.
But the quality of stores are not that good, I have to say.
Apart from that, I couldn't see much to do there, but you are not far from Avalon and downtown Alpharetta and Duluth, even Johns Creek.
So with a short drive, you can enjoy the surrounding towns which are livelier.

..and the Mall of Georgia if you're into that kind of thing! IMax theater and multiplex in the middle plus eateries like the Cheesecake Factory and PF Chang's. The surrounding area has just about every major chain serving everything from Tacos to Steak and beyond!

Drive up I85 to Commerce for the Tanger Outlet stores if, like I said, shopping is your thing (not mine, I hasten to add).
