Just thought I'd follow up and say thanks for all the advice received on this thread. I've now been in L.A. 3 months and things are going really well. I have an apartment, a leased car, bank account and a growing set of friends across the city. Best decision I ever made. Life is good.

Despite how long the visa took, the process of arriving, getting SS number has been really very easy.

If anyone is thinking of moving on H1B, I am happy to provide advice and help based on my experience.

Me neither! I love this city. It really is what you make of it.

How I've learnt to enjoy LA:

- Lease a nice car as you spend a couple of hours a day in it
- Do something active - I hike and paddleboard 2-3 times a week
- Explore new neighborhoods
- Leave the city regularly - Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, San Diego etc etc all 2 hours away
- Have some friends that don't work in entertainment for obvious reasons
